This commercial scaffolding project was undertaken on a block of apartments in the Manchester area for a renewable energy and solar installation. The brief was to install safe working access platforms to all the workable roof space on the buildings. There were 3 in total with a 400 linear meterage at a height of 10 metres. All leading edges and gables were to be handrailed to the parapet walls and gin wheels provided for all lifting on site. The key challenge we faced on this project was the timing before Christmas and that the busy apartments were still active and functioning 24/7. The timescale to erect, dismantle and clear the site before the Christmas period was tight. Health and Safety was predominant and had to be of the highest standard given the busy nature of building, its users and visitors.

Working on an active commercial site that had 150 apartments with in excess of 500+ occupants whilst in operation 24 hours per day. Also some of the garages to the apartments where located within the building. This was all managed through constant communication with the tenants and users of the building. A planned schedule was given to all by post and notices in all hallways, lifts and stair blocks were provided. Men in attendance and banksmen were key and used at all times during both the erection and dismantling phases. Site cordons were provided using Herras fencing and signage to guide all foot traffic safely around site allowing for safe working areas for our operatives to work.

This demanding project given the time frame, hold ups from other trades and challenging pedestrian activity on site was completed on schedule whilst working to the highest of health and safety protocols. The innovative approach and careful execution ensured the work was carried out safely and efficiently, even under complex conditions. The success of this project highlights our team’s commitment to excellence and capability in delivering renewable energy scaffolding access in problematic environments.
